The Richmond

Kriscolor are proud to announce that we have just completed restoration works and painting to the former Richmond Hospital Building on Brunswick Street Nth, Dublin 7. The Building stretches back to 1897 when it was first built on a site that had previously housed the Dominican Nuns who had been there since 1688, so alot of respect was given to the history of the premises.

Our first task was to carefully repair and prepare the exterior sash windows that were in poor shape after years of neglect. They were then primed and painted with 4 coats of a specified Dulux paint system to restore them to a near new finish. The Main front door is a masterpiece design and was painstakingly repaired and painted.

Most of the Internal plasterwork, woodwork and steelwork features were retained with the former being meticulously repaired while maintaining and revealing its original features.

Newel – Before

Newel – After

Mahogany Hand rails were stripped back to bare, repaired and finally many, many coats of French Polish were applied to give a fantatstic finish. Original steel balustrades were prepared and painted in a black satin finish. The Newel posts had been painted for decades and ordinarily would have been just repainted however with the foresight of the Client, Design Team, Main Contractor and advise from Kriscolor It was decided to strip away layer upon layer of paint to reveal a truly fantastic substrate.

The layers of paint to the base and middle sections of the Marble columns in the west wing Lobby were also removed and the results speak for themselves.

Overall it was a pleasure to be involved in such an historic project on a building where a new lease of life has been injected and I’m sure it will stand for another 100 years. Thanks to the main Contractor Townlink for affording us the oppurtunity to show our skills.
